Napoli's pricing policy leaves Maradona short of a sell-out for Arsenal
With 1,500 Arsenal supporters expected in the city and the game classified high-risk for public order, police are finalising security plans ahead of Wednesday's Champions League kick-off.
Two days before Napoli host Arsenal, tickets sold for the Maradona sit at around 45,000 — well short of the stadium's 54,726 capacity. The club's own pricing policy for the Champions League is behind the slower rush for tickets.
The contrast with San Siro stands out. On Saturday, more than 80,000 fans in Milan drove Inter's comeback against Napoli. On a night when Allegri's side needed the opposite kind of lift to respond after conceding that 3-2, the Napoli fanbase is not responding with the same hunger it usually shows for the big European nights — a sign, after the disappointment in Milan, that the city is not giving back.
The match has been classified high-risk for public order. 1,500 Arsenal supporters are expected from London, and police will seal off the streets of the historic centre before kick-off to keep the two sets of fans apart. A new organisational meeting is due on Monday 7 September to finalise the security plan, ahead of Wednesday's 21:00 CET kick-off at the Maradona.
