Calaiò: Anguissa 'won't be the same again', Napoli should have kept Folorunsho
The former Napoli striker questions Giovanni Manna's transfer window and points to Anguissa's contract situation, as the midfielder undergoes a fitness check at Castel Volturno.
Emanuele Calaiò, the former Napoli striker, has criticised the club's midfield planning. Speaking on Aspettando il bello del calcio, he said: "Anguissa, the way I see it, won't go back to how he was before. He's had serious injuries, he's been at Napoli for many years now, and mentally he's not at his best either, partly because of the contract situation. I would have signed another midfielder."
Anguissa's contract runs to 2027, and his demands remain apart from the club's offer, with no meeting yet scheduled. Napoli's midfield is already short-staffed: McTominay is out with a heart arrhythmia, and on Tuesday 8 September Anguissa himself is being tested at Castel Volturno for the fatigue problem he felt at San Siro, ahead of the Champions League opener against Arsenal — with Gilmour ready to step in if he is unavailable.

Calaiò then turned on sporting director Giovanni Manna: "Napoli are playing with Vergara adapted into the role of a midfielder further forward. It's not a given that you needed to sign a €50m player. If you were short, why didn't you keep Folorunsho? He could have been useful, and he'd have been an alternative to Anguissa too." The summer window closed on 1 September with the club roughly €47.5m down and no midfield reinforcements added.
