Bcc Napoli chief: new stadium 'won't happen' in Napoli Est
Amedeo Manzo, president of Napoli's cooperative bank, says the Q8-zone project would take four or five years and that the club should focus on renovating the Maradona instead.
Amedeo Manzo, president of the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Napoli, has poured cold water on the new stadium project. Speaking on Radio Napoli Centrale's Un Calcio alla Radio about the plan for a site in the Napoli Est area near the Q8, he said: "I see it as complicated. And in a timeframe that seems longer than what should matter here. It would take four or five years. Planning beyond 2030, with wars going on in the world, that would feel like a stretch." His conclusion was blunt: "I don't think the stadium will be built in Napoli Est."
Manzo argued the more realistic path is renovating the Maradona, though he said he understood chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis's caution. He backed the club's push for a stadium of its own on business grounds: "De Laurentiis is right from a corporate point of view. You can't compete with international funds, which are often not transparent. He needs a home of his own, like Juventus."

In the same interview, Manzo touched on the league, quoting Boskov's line that "the game ends when the referee blows the whistle" about Napoli's start of one win and one loss against "a well-organised Como", and urged against rushing to judge head coach Massimiliano Allegri ahead of tough games against Inter and Arsenal. Napoli, 10th on 3 points after two rounds, play at San Siro on Saturday.
